Bangalore International Airport Limited

15:30 Balancing Cost, Quality and Schedule in Delivering Expansion Projects at Mumbai & Bangalore Airport

CSIA Mumbai is India’s second-busiest airport, where operator Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) recently completed a complex brownfield airport expansion and development program. The project is unique for its complexity and the volume of air traffic movements (ATMs) it handles. The majority of airfield facilities and infrastructure were redeveloped, and a new terminal was constructed alongside associated pavement works.

India’s third-busiest by air traffic volume, Bangalore International Airport (KIAL) recently broke ground on its expansion plans to build a second runway and terminal that will increase capacity by 20 million passengers upon completion of phase one in 2021.

The project includes a 4,000-metre new south parallel runway, full parallel taxiway, two cross-field taxiways connecting the new and existing runways and a terminal apron and new second terminal. Area development work began in 2016, and earthworks, pavement works, AGL systems, drainage and signage works will follow.

This session will explore key construction aspects of MIAL’s airside and landside development program. It will also discuss the concept design for the KIAL expansion and lessons learned executing a largescale airfield development by aligning project team communication and deliverables to proceed on-time and on-budget.
